Winemaking

Claire and Alan Ramey

Claire and Alan Ramey are the winemakers behind the project, with consulting credit to Cameron Frey and Lydia Cummins. Together, with chemistry and winemaking coursework, hands on viticultural and winemaking training, and lessons drawn from wine academics and practitioners around the world, their approach is shaped by evidence-first practical winemaking.

Being raised within the wine world but aspiring towards the creativity to do something different was easier said than done. Reading about the 19th century winemaking pioneers of California and the creative freedoms taken at that time was helpful in learning to go a different way. The first vintage showcases what is possible when remixing grapes from the south of France, letting the aromatics, fruit and lift of Cabernet Franc and Garnacha marry with the base notes of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. Mourvèdre frames the exploration.
